Born on May 2, 1922, in Rolinda, California, Dr. Pimentel received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1943. After a year working on the Manhattan Project at UC Berkeley and more than two years in the Navy, he returned to Berkeley to complete his graduate work.
